Lazare Adingono played three years of college basketball with the Rhode Island Rams before graduating and embarking on a professional basketball career which saw him compete for clubs in Mexico, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
In 2003, when injuries forced him to stop playing, Adingono returned to his alma mater and worked in basketball operations. In 2006, he left Rhode Island to become an assistant coach at Canisius College. The captain of Cameroon in 2003, he accepted an offer to coach the National Team and the country has reaped the benefits. His contacts in both the United States and Europe, and his experience in the game as a player and as a coach in America have all added up to a winning formula for Cameroon. Adingono turned the National Team into one of the real surprises at last year’s FIBA Africa Championship in Angola. His tactics, and his ability to motivate were instrumental as Cameroon reached the final before falling to hosts and big favourites, Angola.
