His dyed blond hair is known all over Africa. Marques Houtman comes from the Cape Verdian community in Boston. One of the numerous Cape Verdians that went to UMass Dartmouth, he was signed by the Angolan club of Primero de Agosto after the 2007 FIBA Africa Championship and joined teammate Rodrigo Mascarenhas in celebrating two titles - the Angolan and the continental championship. During the 2007 FIBA Africa Championship, he was elected to the all tournament team as a point. Despite a low shooting percentage, he had an ability to score in the clutch.
