Anderson is in a tough situation with the Canadian National Team because everyone in the country would prefer the two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash to be the point guard. Despite the distractions, Anderson has stepped up to grab the starting playmaker spot and has been better than advertised. He proved to be a reliable floor general (just seven turnovers in eight games at the FIBA Americas Championship last summer). Anderson can hit the open three-point shot, but rarely breaks down his defender to get into the paint. His main purpose is to run the offence and not turn the ball over. Without Nash, as long as he continues to do that, he will see major minutes in the Canadian backcourt.
