Fadi El Khatib is the big star of Lebanon basketball. The Tiger – his nickname – played nine seasons for Sagesse Beirut and won seven consecutive league titles between 1998 and 2004. When he was younger, he had committed to the University of Alabama but never played in the NCAA. Some believed he would become the second Lebanese to play in the NBA after Rony Seikaly but this has not come to fruition. El Khatib started this season with Cherkassy Monkeys in Ukraine and averaged 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in the FIBA EuroCup but was released after few months. El Khatib had 29 points in the surprise 74-73 preliminary round win over France at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
