Damir Markota was known a few years ago as Damir Omerhodzic but after struggling with some serious family issues, he decided to use his mother’s surname. He is a gifted player but he probably made an error when he left Cibona Zagreb at only 21 to play in the NBA. The Milwaukee Bucks did not give him a chance to play and sent him to the D-League. With the Tulsa 66ers, he averaged 10.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 2006-07. Last summer, he played at EuroBasket 2007 with Croatia. He also decided to return to Europe. After starting the season with Spartak St. Petersburg, he joined Zalgiris Kaunas and posted 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in the Euroleague. Markota can play in the paint but also step outside and hit three-pointers.
