Career: Bamberg (Germany-Bundesliga, 1997-2005), Fortitudo Bologna (Italy-Lega, left in Dec. 2006), Bamberg (2006-08)

Steffen Hamann is a hard-nosed defensive point guard who fits perfectly into the system of Dirk Bauermann, his National Team coach. His quickness gets him into the lane for lay-ups, but he struggles in other areas of the offence. Though he may not be a strong outside shooter, and though he is one who delegates the playmaking role to others, Hamann is a player who is very physical on defence. Hamann remains Bauermann's number one point guard option for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. His brief stint with Fortitudo Bologna at the start of the 2006-07 Lega A campaign in Italy appeared to help him with his confidence. Germany would love for him to supply some offence when they take on Greece and Lebanon in Athens this summer.
