Career: Canterbury Rams (New Zealand-NBL, 2003-08), Singapore Slingers (Australia-NBL, 2006-07), Wollongong Hawks (Australia-NBL, 2007-08)
Kench has established himself as one of the top Kiwi guards in the New Zealand-NBL, albeit with a club that has not made the semi-finals since 2002. In 2006, he enjoyed a breakout season for the Rams, averaging 18.7 points (52.8% FG), 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals, and was rewarded with a professional contract by the expansion Slingers in the Australian NBL. He switched to Wollongong last summer and has emerged as Canterbury’s best player this season, averaging 18.4 points, 3.8 assists and a league-leading 3.5 steals. In the absence of veteran point guards Mark Dickel and Paul Henare, Kench’s value to the National Team has increased substantially.
