Canada received a boost in the summer of 2007 when the Haiti-born Samuel Dalembert officially received his citizenship, giving the team a legitimate NBA post player. Dalembert can alter shots and has the ability to control the paint on the defensive end. He was among Canada’s statistical leaders at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas, averaging 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. Offensively, Dalembert has limitations. Last summer, he often took Canada out of their offensive rhythm by attempting mid-range jump shots. Dalembert had a solid NBA campaign, averaging a career-high 10.4 rebounds to help the Sixers reach the play-offs. For Canada to qualify for the Olympics, they need Dalembert to take his game to another level.
