Career: Ribeirao Preto (Brazil, 1999-2003), San Antonio Spurs (USA-NBA, 2003-04), New Orleans Hornets (USA-NBA, 2004-05), COC/Ribeirao Preto (Brazil-BLN, 2005-06), Universo BRB Brasilia (Brazil-BLN, 2006-07).
Garcia is a muscular combo guard who never really made it in the NBA where he played just 10 games in two seasons. A suspect shot and lack of height at the shooting guard position were recipes for failure in that endeavor. Back at Ribeirao Preto in 2005, though, Garcia had no problems and was among the BNL’s top scorers. He then had a very credible 2006 FIBA World Championship, leading Brazil’s pressure defence in their failed bid to reach the last 16. Alex joined European giants Maccabi Tel Aviv this season and performed well. He scored 18 of his 19 points in the second half of their come-from-behind triumph over Montepaschi Siena in the semi-final of the Euroleague Final Four.
