“It was a pity not to be at the EuroBasket, but I’ve recovered from physical problems and I’m really looking forward to playing for Slovenia at the pre-Olympic tournament.” Those were the words of Sani Becirovic. After missing the EuroBasket in Spain last year, Sani Becirovic felt weird, even though he knew his body needed a break. After a bad knee injury almost ended his career, everybody did understand his decision, especially considering that he has been playing almost every summer for the National Team since he was 17 years old. A big scorer when he was younger, averaging 20.5 points for Virtus Bologna in the Euroleague, Becirovic has morphed into a more modest role with Panathinaikos. His still hopes to be a big factor at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament and help Slovenia grab one of the three spots for the Beijing Games. Not the aggressive player and athletic player he once was, he is still capable of scoring outbursts.
